One of the ways Design teams fail to deliver great experiences -where quality isn’t high- like products that remain as MVP, products with large backlogs of UX debt, is when they make the concern and responsibility of the design quality as the one of the design discipline and its practice.
Design leadership and designers, need to help connect the value of high-quality design as a way to achieve both business and customer outcomes.
If we only try to improve usability, look and feel, consistency, accessibility and responsiveness because it is “good design”, we are making it a very hard sell to the ones who set the business goals and to the ones who build the products.
Design needs to make the focus for great design -quality experiences- a shared focus for all disciplines because every decision made by ANY stakeholder ends up being a design decision.
